True

First, we understand that life happens, and circumstance might make it impossible to attend.

We strongly encourage that all participants attend and complete the 5K, as it is the goal that teams are preparing for all season long! It’s the ultimate opportunity to build confidence through accomplishment. Remember, this is the first 5K event for many – including coaches, participants, friends and family members. We are in it together!

A Running Buddy is a parent, family member, teacher, family friend or community volunteer designated by the parent/guardian to complete the 5K alongside a program participant for the entire duration of the course.

The Job of a Running Buddy is to be by a girl’s side either running, walking or skipping at her pace, encouraging her to do her best, but also recognizing and respecting her limits.

Yes! This is encouraged! This is a great way to accomplish a goal together. We ask that older siblings wishing to be a Running Buddy are 16 years of age or older.

Free parking is available at Highland High School (northeast of Sugar House Park). Additionally, limited parking is available on side streets adjacent to the park. The park gates will be closed for the race from 8:30 a.m. to around 10:15 a.m. If you plan on parking in the park, you will not be able to drive on the course or leave the park until the last girl crosses the finish line.

There will be a golf cart shuttle for those needing assistance getting to the Big Field Pavillion from the northeast corner of the park (near Highland High School).

Yes! Family, friends and community members outside of our program can participate in the event, but must register if they wish to participate.

Absolutely! Everyone who registers for the 5K will receive a beanie, race bag, race bib, and post-race goodies. Participants will also receive a medal when crossing the finish line.

The 5K has fun activities for everyone! Check back soon for more details.

This is an important day for our girls and the 5K will be held rain, snow or shine. Should outside conditions become unsafe, we will notify participants through email and social media as soon as possible. Plan to dress for the weather and bring your own sunshine as needed.

Girls on the Run 5K entries are non-refundable. Registration fees are not refundable in the event of cancellation due to weather or other safety concerns.

The course for a 5K is 3.1 miles that takes 2 laps around Sugar House Park. As a reminder, this is a fun, celebratory event for our participants and not a competitive race. While our fastest 5K participants will complete the course in 25 minutes, most cross the finish line in 30-50 minutes. Everyone who participates is encouraged to walk, roll, push, run or skip at their happy pace!

Yes. Girls on the Run 5K events are for everyone! All participants can walk, run, push or roll safely and at their own happy pace on the paved running course. Designated parking spots are available.

We suggest program participants arrive no later than 9:15 a.m. the morning of the race. When arriving, participants and their families will gather with their teams by their designated team sign. Activities will begin at 8:30 a.m.

Online registration closes on Monday, November 10, 2024. The price will increase the day of 5K when registering in person.
