"Every year during the annual South Salt Lake Fire Department (SSLFD) Awards Banquet, the Mayor’s Spirit of Community Award honors an individual from the SSLFD whose daily work profoundly impacts the city and exemplifies true service. This year, however, the award celebrated not one, but four remarkable members of the SSLFD: Haruka Gill, Mya Withers, Matthew Storosh, and Carlo Elter.

Their collective spirit shone through when they volunteered as running buddies for students at Olene Walker Elementary during a ‘Girls on the Run’ 5K event. Despite a snowstorm that Saturday at Sugar House Park, their enthusiasm and positivity left lasting memories for our community’s youth. I am immensely grateful for the ongoing support from the SSLFD!"
